The Planetary Hours

Let’s take a look at the planetary hours. We can establish a ruleset quite easily based on what we know.

1) You can call an entity during any hours of the day in which they Govern. So, on Saturday, you can call up Saturn during any of the hours
2) You can call an entity on any day, during its’ designated hour. So, on Wednesday, the day governed by Mercury, you can call up Saturn during his designated hour.
3) The absolute optimum situation is to call the entity during it’s prescribed hour on its’ prescribed day.
4) The Intelligences prefer being called during the Night hours, based on tradition. So, for the absolute Grand Slam of magick, you would call Saturn up on Saturday, during the night hour designated to Saturn
5) All planetary intelligences CAN come if called, but don’t count on it if you don’t adhere to the rules
6) For practical magick, count on failure unless you prepare your talisman during the correct day and hour.

To derive the correct hours, you use the following rules

1) There are 24 planetary hours in a day, divided into 2 sets of 12. One set is the day hours and one is the night hours.

2) You take the sunset and sunrise of the town you live in to make your calculations. For a simple example, we’ll assume that sunset is directly at 6:00 am and sunset is at 9:00pm, as it roughly is during the summer months in most places. That would give you exactly 15 hours for the day hours and 9 for the night hours. Divide these two by 12, and you’ll come up with the correct length of the hour.
3) The order of the planetary hours are always:
Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury
4) The first hour of the day is the ruling planet. So, you’ll find this order:
Monday - Luna Tuesday - Mars - Wednesday - Thursday - Jupiter Friday - Venus Saturday - Saturn

5) On monday, the Moon is the ruler, so the first planetary hour is dedicated to the Moon. Next is Saturn, Jupiter, and so on. The list goes on until you have all 24 hours accounted for
.

Of course, in modern times, there are a number of planetary hour calculators you can use, to make your work easier. Check the work the first time to make sure the hours are correct, and you should have no problem using this system in the future.

The hours are all related to your locale, and based on your sunset and sunrise, so make sure you have the correct starting times and the rest should fall into place quite easily.
