The Italian Renaissance and Planetary Magick - Part One

As the Inquisition sought to ground out all opposing thought, a group of freethinkers began to appear on the scene. They had to be careful to disguise their contempt for doctrine, for fear of being burned at the stake. For this reason alone you’ll have to understand just why most of the magickal texts from the 16th century through the end of the 19th have veiled meanings. To be discovered being interested in the occult was almost sure to land a person sever repercussions, up to and including their death. Actually, your penalty could extend beyond death! Many a condemned person was dug back up and burned, just to make sure their souls were “saved”. In times like this, it would be madness to reveal too much of anything concerning your beliefs.

Working With The Entities

Working With The Entities

Now, it’s time to take a look at what working with these entities. It might surprise you to hear how they actually work, and what types of changes you might expect to occur for you. These entities are extremely powerful, and communicating with them requires a great bit of energy, especially at the beginning, when you’re new to the whole thing. You will probably end up noticing a tired feeling in the first weeks of your practice. This is to be expected as the entities take energy from you to be able to communicate. But remember, they just don’t take, they also give back. And after you practice awhile, you’ll notice the energy drain start to fade a bit. This is a sign your initiation level is rising.

Ritual And The Modern Magician - Part One

Ritual and the modern magician - Part One

Let’s take a look at magick ritual from the perspective of the modern magician. Much of the material written on the subject is extremely prosaic and written for a bygone era. We, as magicians do not need to pay inordinate homage to the past. Instead, we must ruthlessly take what we want from the works and integrate into an understandable system for our time. For that reason, I urge you to avoid the pitfall of overly admiring work that doesn’t seem to make sense to you, but seems somehow smart nonetheless. Don’t forget, charlatans in magick can also be good writers, and will tend to put a ton of seemingly legitimate verbiage to work in an effort to impress the uninitiated. Remember a common warning from recent culture: if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.

Ritual And The Modern Magician - Part Two - Continued from Part One

If I’m so quick to remove elements of tradition, it would be only fair for me to mention the required parts. These are the mechanical bases of success, and there is no taking them out if you plan on succeeding. The Western Tradition, as synthesized by Mathers and later popularized by Crowley and Regardie mixes up many elements of Renaissance magick into a cohesive system. This amalgam is not wholly natural or required. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say that for beginners, trying to learn this much information at once will end up being too much too soon. So, I’d like to separate what I think is the essential from the unneeded.

The Nature Of The Spirits

May 12, 2008 – 8:56 pm

Descriptions of the Intelligence and Spirits are varied, but a common attitude prevails. The Intelligences are the Good Spirits, or Geniuses, and the Spirits are the Bad Spirits, or Demons. There’s plenty of admonitions in the literature against invoking the Spirits directly. No less a fearless practioner than Crowley gives plenty of clear advice on how he operated with these forces. A sample from his invocation of Bartzabel should shed light on the matter.

“I will the conjure Graphiel to compel the Spirit Bartzabel to appear in the Magick Triangle as the Talisman of Mars is consecrated, and to be bound there and veiled until all is prepared, and thus this Creature of Talismans is bound thrice and veiled in black.” Indeed, Crowley doesn’t claim to speak to Bartzabel directly, but conjures Graphiel to compel him to appear. Don’t forget, Bartzabel is independent of Graphiel, so he may or may not choose to comply, although if you have the co-operation of Graphiel, it’s a pretty good bet he will.

Using Planetary Magick for practical ends - Considerations and potential disadvantages

Okay, so you don’t care about philosophy or equilibrium. You’re mainly interested in practical magick. Indeed, your blackened heart cares most about selfish ends. Will you still be able to use this system? Of course. The Gods aren’t that judgmental. If you want to hang yourself spiritually, they’ll be happy to give you all the rope you need for the job. If you aren’t so cavalier in your attitude, they’ll be happy to discuss every magickal act with you, before you earn any negative Karma points.

The Planetary Magick System

May 12, 2008 – 8:45 pm

The Planetary Magick System

The planetary magick system appears in print in a number of places, and the Golden Dawn manual by Israel Regardie is quite a decent place to start. In the book you’ll find a number of correspondences, proper rituals, and correctly drawn sigils which should make contact with entities a snap. The system of correspondences is relatively easy to understand. Each planet has a number of objects which are considered sacred. If you create an atmosphere that is conducive to the nature of the planet, it is argued, then it makes it much easier for the entity to be contacted. This appears to be quite true from all experiences.

What is Planetary Magick?

What is Planetary Magick?

Chronicling what planetary magic is, is not as easy as you might think. For many years, the main practioners of the craft were often sworn to secrecy, and harbored a sense of elitism in the information they would release. At other times, the system was often couched in symbolism and purposeful subterfuge, so that the meanings were lost to even strict adherents. But wherever man existed, there has always been a small group of people who are totally dedicated to the Light, and who have followed the teachings of the planets to an exact degree.

Planetary Power

A Guide To The Hidden Universe

Introduction

Mankind has advanced mightily in the last centuries, with an outright explosion in productivity occuring in the last few decades. Modern people are faced with a dizzying array of choices, ranging from consumerism to politics. Serving the spiritual needs of the masses is still largely the function of organized religion, but it’s safe to say that adherents to most of the popular sects enjoy very little happiness based on their membership. More and more people are attracted to the myths of Gods of yore, as well as to the potential for achieving superhuman efforts using many of the techniques that were popular with the ancients. This treatise is designed to outline a thoroughly modern approach to the task of personal development, often called the “Great Work” using a planetary magick system that is older than man, with far greater potential to exist past anyone’s lifetime.
